Your Guide to Understanding Newborn Sessions

You know you want a newborn session for your little bundle of joy, but you’re not sure WHEN to come in for those precious photos. We hear this all the time from expecting mamas. And it can be a little stressful when you already have so much on your plate already. We get it!

It’s common to assume that all Newborn Sessions are the same – why would you think otherwise, right?

But, they are actually different - and are based on the baby’s age. Since babies change so dramatically in those first few days, weeks, and months, the types of photos vary as well, depending on the exact age of the baby at the time the photos were taken.

Let’s put it this way:

When your Baby is 1-4 weeks old: This is the ideal time to have a Newborn Session! We can capture those snuggly, sleepy, swaddled photos. And we basically capture anything and everything you’ve been dreaming about! We love including siblings and parents, too.

When your Baby is 4-8 weeks old: We’ll try our best to capture those sleepy, snuggly photos, but they’re not guaranteed. Of course we’ll take advantage of the HUGE selection of props, blankets, accessories, but depending on the baby’s age, there might be some that won’t work. Parents and siblings are also encouraged to join in on the photo fun!

When your Baby is 4 weeks or older: It’s always special to capture your baby, at any age! However, since they baby is more than a few weeks old, the typical “newborn” photos will be limited. No sleepy, swaddled photos, and you must bring an outfit from home as the baby won’t be swaddled in a blanket. There’s no “basket” photos, either.

Not sure what session is right for you? Our chart below will give you all the answers you need to schedule your baby’s session.

And what happens if you have your baby before or after your due date?

We’ll just reschedule it - super easy. It’s always better to schedule in advance!
